In their first year at Symmes Junior High School, grade 7 students have the opportunity to be a part of all three arts subjects offered at the school: Music, Drama and Visual Arts. Each student will spend one trimester in each of the arts subjects as a introduction and 'trial period'. In music, all students will have the opportunity to learn to read basic music rudiments and perform on a wind instrument.
In their second year at Symmes Junior High School, grade 8 students begin to streamline their arts options by choosing their preferred TWO arts subjects. Each subject is semestered and will last approximately half of the school year. In Grade 8 music, students continue to build on concepts touched upon in grade 7 and further develop their instrumental performance abilities.
In addition to the grade 7 and 8 programs, an extracurricular Symmes Concert band runs throughout the school year. The band rehearses on Wednesdays from 1:45 to 3:45pm and during one lunch hour per week. For more information on the Symmes Band, please consult the Band Information pages on the Menu Bar.
