In their first year at D'Arcy McGee High School, grade 9 students choose only ONE of the three Arts Subjects and remain in this subject for the remainder of their high school career. The grade 9 music course runs all year long and is much more in-depth that music at the Symmes level. Students begin to further develop their instrumental techniques as well as beginning to study different historical time periods and more complex theoretical concepts.

In their second year at D'Arcy McGee High School, grade 10 students continue their chosen Arts subject for the entire year again. However, the MUS402/502 combines grade 10 and 11 Music and students receive both credits upon succcessful completion. Advanced Grade 11 Music is also offerered depending on registered numbers. Students in grade 10/11 Music continue their instrumental techniques, study different historical time periods and theoretical concepts as well as begin a second instrument of their choice. 

In addition to the grade 9-11 music programs, an extracurricular D'Arcy Concert band runs throughout the school year. The band rehearses on Tuesday and Friday mornings from 7:30am to 8:30am. Additionally, Jazz Band is offered as a Personal Development Course (PDC) for all students in grades 9-11. For more information on the D'Arcy Bands, please consult the Band Information pages on the Menu Bar.
